1997 Mercedes-Benz SL320 40th Anniversary Edition

Last week I checked out a 1999 Mercedes-Benz S500 Grand Edition and explained that I think it is one of the few ”special edition” Mercedes that actually has some kind of impact on the value of the car. Today, we have of those ”special edition” Mercedes that really doesn’t move the needle with people and even more so, some think what was done to it makes it undesirable.

This is a 1997 SL320 40th Anniversary Edition. I’ve covered these before, but the short of it is Mercedes made 250 SL320s painted in Quartz Blue Metallic with matching wood trim called ”Royal Maple” which is far from a color that comes to mind when you think wood. Some like the uniqueness of it, some say it’s garish and doesn’t make any sense. Either way, this example up for sale in Georgia is probably one of the lowest mile examples I’ve seen with just over 21,000, but does that mean the price tag has to match?

2007 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

Now that everyone is in holiday shopping mode and searching diligently for a good deal, I’d thought I’d throw this one out there. This is a 2007 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG for $12,000. No, it isn’t smashed in the rear and you just can’t see it like some tricks some other eBay auctions try to pull. This is a perfectly functioning 6.2 liter V8 monster that normally trades around the $20,000 mark. Yes, it is $12,000 for a reason, but the pluses for this car might just outweigh the minuses. Let me explain.

2000 Mercedes-Benz E320 ‘Pickup Truck’

Oh, goody. It is tough to put into words how excited how I am for this one today. As you might have noticed, this is a 2000 Mercedes-Benz E320 ”Pickup Truck”. This job was done by the custom builders at Binz, a company in Germany that produces work on par with that of the Mercedes-Benz factory. I’ve actually looked at one of their creations before, but none as clean at this one today. What is interesting is that this W210 started life as a E320 estate and then was converted to the pickup. The amazing thing is that Binz just didn’t slap a bed on this thing and call it a day, they actually went above and beyond on every single detail. Despite being built in Germany, this thing is actually for sale on US soil in California. So let us dig into this sedan with some extra cargo capacity.

2016 Mercedes-Benz G300 CDI 6×6

I know what you are saying. ”Another G-Wagen?” Yes, but if you saw the title and looked at the photo you can understand why. This is a 2016 G300 CDI 6×6. Yes, a G300 CDI, which means this thing is powered by the 3.0 liter OM642 V6 diesel engine and of course, it is a 6×6, too. These special Gs are called the LAPV (Light Armored Patrol Vehicle) 6.1 used for military service for countries around the world. It doesn’t look like much now, but typically these are outfitted to look something like this or this. This 6×6 has also been upgraded with Beadlock 37-inch tires with a centralized pressure system in cab. Just for good measure, it is possible to tow a trailer weighing up to 4400 pounds. How much? It is a good thing militaries have large budgets.

1999 Mercedes-Benz S500 Grand Edition

As a send off to the Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class in 1999, Mercedes gave 600 S500s the treatment of the Grand Edition. All painted black, these cars had 18 inch AMG Monoblock wheels, the same hand stitched seats and steering wheel from the S600, a special birdseye maple woodgrain trim, privacy screens on the rear and back windows and illuminated door sills on top of all the standard things you got on the S500. Sticker price for these 600 cars was $89,500, a mere $2,000 more than the regular S500 — which is totally worth it in my eyes. Most of the time these older Mercedes-Benz ”special edition” cars haven’t had any impact on their value once they are past their warranty limit. But for this W140, it has been just a little different.
