1982 Porsche 928 Weissach Edition

This is one of those holy **** cars. Here we have a 1982 Porsche 928 Weissach Edition. I will admit before looking at this one I did not know much about the 928 Weissach Edition. I’ve seen plenty of the 911 Weissach Edition, but not the 928. Like the 911 Weissach, the 928 was intended to celebrate Porsche’s Motorsports department located in, you guessed it, Weissach, Germany. It was the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking at the site. And we know that Porsche likes to make special editions.

Like many Porsche special editions, the 928 Weissach doesn’t hit you with a bunch of performance upgrades. It’s all cosmetic, but while the 911 made do mostly with interesting colors, the 928 turns the luxury dial up with its additions. The most obvious of these additions is the leather. The Weissach came with medium brown leather and if you could touch it, then it probably was leather. You also received a matching leather 3-piece luggage set made by Seeger. Because who would dare travel in their Porsche Grand Tourer without matching luggage? The exterior is Hellbronze Metallic, which is a nice color and furthers the theme of elegance. Other items were included as well: upgraded stereo, electric sunroof, forged alloy wheels, and front and rear spoilers. The overall impression though is straightforward: the 928 Weissach was for the buyer who wanted their Porsche luxury cruiser to be even more lux and more exclusive. The package cost $5,940 so you definitely had to want it.

Porsche said they’d make only 205 of them. That’s almost half the number of the 911 Weissach built so they’re pretty rare. I don’t know how many of those were equipped with a manual transmission (a 3-speed automatic also was available), but this one is a manual. It also has a stupid low 14,030 miles on it. Hot damn!

2007 Porsche 911 GT3

2007 Porsche 911 GT3

This is a Speed Yellow 2007 Porsche 911 GT3, located in North Carolina, with 53,500 miles on it. As you can see, like the very wonderful GT3 RS I wrote up a few days ago it has a few miles on it. Not a ton, but enough that we know its owners have derived some joy out of it. As they should.

However, it’s not quite as perfect and worry-free as that RS. There are some flaws and those raise questions. The uncertainty they create will scare away many potential buyers. They’ve also brought with them a lower price; the lowest price I believe I’ve seen for a 997 GT3. I won’t call this post a “roll of the dice” because I’m not sure you roll the dice on a car costing more than $80K, or at least not one without deep six-figure upside, but can you live with a little less certainty?

1969 Porsche 912 Coupe

1969 Porsche 912 Coupe

It feels like forever since I posted a 912 and that’s too bad because I like these a lot. However, they don’t always make as much sense as they once did – as the inexpensive alternative to a long-hood 911 – and frankly I don’t see nice ones all that often. Or, at least, it’s become extremely rare to see those that fulfill both obligations: they look good and they aren’t priced insanely. I think this one does manage to do that even if it still is more expensive than where we were a few years ago. It is cheaper than most of its 911 counterparts though so at least that’s good.

This is a Polo Red 1969 Porsche 912 Coupe, located in California, with black leatherette interior and 67,570 miles on it. Those familiar with the 911/912 from this era will know that 1969 signals the first year of the longer-wheelbase for both models. Since the 912 would be put out of production the following year, except for a one-year return in 1976 with impact bumpers, this is the only model year you can get a long-wheelbase long-hood 912. That makes them a little unique and I think this one looks quite nice!

1977 Porsche 911S Targa

1977 Porsche 911S Targa

A couple days ago I featured a 911 that had undergone a bit of a transformation into what we might best describe as an off-roader. I thought it seemed like a potentially interesting project, but in its present condition seemed somewhat incomplete. The pricing also didn’t seem great all things considered.

Here we can look at something similar though nearly the opposite. This is a Burgundy Metallic 1977 Porsche 911S Targa and unlike the 911S Safari, as it was dubbed, this one appears in nearly original condition, was under long-term ownership, has very low mileage, and looks pristine. At its best, this is what a mid-year 911 can look like. As I noted in the Safari post, the general lack of desirability of these models makes them good candidates for unique projects. With this one maybe we’ll see just where the market presently lies for an original example.

2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

This is pretty much my favorite 911. I can’t say there is any particularly great reason it’s my favorite since there are probably more rare, more iconic, and better performing 911s in existence, but since the day I first saw one I’ve been in love. Some of the appeal for me is timing and because the 997 was the first GT3 RS sold in the US. Though it obviously was not the first RS entirely. There also is something about the 997 GT3 RS’s looks that I really like and prefer over newer models and, probably not surprisingly, over the 996 GT3 RS. And it’s Orange. When I say this is my favorite 911 I don’t just mean the 997 GT3 RS in general, but specifically the Orange over Black option that we see here. I have a model of one that my wife begrudgingly allows me to display on our bookshelf. I love it.

Here we have what happens to be a really nice looking example of these great cars and to make things even better it’s an example an owner actually has driven. Imagine that!
