Feature Listing: 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet

Having just returned from a much needed trip to the coast, seeing this Cabriolet come our way seems like perfect timing. What better way to enjoy the sights, smell, and feel of that ocean environment than through some open-top motoring? The 964 Cabriolet is a rarer sight to behold than some other models, especially among the more modern water-cooled 911s where the Cabriolet appears to have become increasingly popular. Though I see them come around for sale fairly often I almost never see one on the roads. Some of that, of course, is due to their age as seeing a 964 of any variety on the road is a rare treat. But still the Cabriolet is fleeting. As I believe I’ve mentioned previously, when looking for some open-top fun, why sacrifice motoring pleasure just because the roof has been removed? There are plenty of enjoyable options among the truly wonderful machines Porsche has produced. The example here comes to us from Encore Motors: a Triple Black 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet with 58,800 miles and a rare rear seat delete option.

1993 Porsche Carrera 2 cabriolet. 58,800 miles. Triple black, 5 speed, excellent soft top. Just finished up with the sorting process and now she’s ready to go.

We’ve been working on this car for months, trying to get the details right. We found it sitting neglected, and had to spend lots of time and money to get it right. It has the rare and desirable rear seat delete option, everything works properly, correct Charleston radio. It looks and drives beautifully now. It has been cut. flattened, and buffed to a beautiful shine. Interior is nicely detailed as well, seats, door cards, and carpets in excellent shape. Glass is also excellent. I’ve bought many new trim parts, facilitated LOTS of repairs, and spent hours detailing it. It’s a honest, straight car, with a good history, convertible top looks nice and has a new top transmission and top control box rebuild, AC is ice cold and control units have been replaced, brakes are up (fronts have new pads, rotors and sensors), new battery last week, new hood struts front and rear, new inner and outer CV’s, and so much more. My showroom floor is dry as a bone–I don’t see any oil leaks. Call me, I’ll break out the records and try to answer your every question in detail. I have the original books/pouch, the maintenance book has been carefully stamped up to about 53k, good records but not all (of course I do have all of mine), and also note the boot cover (most of them are lost–do you have any idea how much this thing costs?!). It also has a clean Carfax and Autocheck history(76 on a 70 scale), glad to send it to you if you like.

This a much, much nicer than average quality 964 driver. It is not Parade concours (and I know what that is), but makes a great appearance, is a pleasure to drive and is realistically priced. 964’s are just beginning to get their due. Take a look at the prices on the comps, and look at the online price valuators. You will see this is an excellent buy. I have many, many more photos to get up, but with this black car indoors, they are very tough to edit. Just let me know what you’d like to see and I’ll get it for you.

This year marks my 41st as being a Porsche geek. If it’s not me, just make sure you buy your Porsche from a Porsche nut, not just some guy slinging junk…..

This particular Cabriolet shows in very presentable condition and with fewer than 60K miles should offer a lot of continued enjoyment. Like most black cars it likely will show better in person where the depth of the paint can be better appreciated, but it still looks good here. It’s seen a good deal of recent maintenance to bring it up to its current condition, which should provide peace of mind to any prospective buyer, both in the sense of having a good deal of knowledge of where the car’s mechanical and cosmetic condition currently stands and also with the knowledge that it should be ready to be enjoyed without too much concern over impending issues. The rear seat delete is an attractive option pushing this Cabriolet into the more traditional Roadster territory that has been the hallmark of open-topped sports cars for decades. Altogether this 964 looks like a nice driver option and the price suits that position quite well. The 964 is gaining notice among Porsche fans so the time to get into one without having to spend too much may be slowly coming to an end.

I have had the pleasure of logging a few miles on this car. It fires on the first turn of the key, idles smoothly and drives very well. The transmission shifts crisply and the brakes have excellent feel to them. The exhaust note is amazing.

964s are rare and Cabriolets in this condition are rarer still. If you are looking for an air cooled Porsche that will turn heads yet still able to driven to club events, you owe it to yourself to check this one out.
