Just the other day, Paul looked at a 1998 BMW 318ti in Oxford Green. An offbeat commuter, the condition of that car was great, but not so much was the near $7,000 price. Today I have another 318ti to look at, but this one ups the ante a bit. Again it is an original M44 car in great shape with well below average miles. The color is a little less 90s spectacular, but still looks nice in Alpine White. However, it’s the addition of the California roof and the M-Sport package which really helps this hatch stand out. Last week I checked out a 1978 350SE that was chock-full of little goodies but didn’t really past muster as a good buy. Today we have another W116 that seems to check all the boxes of of what a proper 1970’s S-Class should bring to the table as a nice driver and possible collector car. Located in Switzerland, the black paint is only the tip of the iceberg as to what this 450SEL offers. So let’s check out this blood-red big Benz.

Comments closedExcellence Magazine ran a recent article on the 1969 911S as possibly the best of the early long-hood 911s. There wasn’t really an extensive argument for that claim, but rather it served as a reasonable introduction to the 911 upon which the article was intended to focus. Regardless of whether we feel the ’69 model year was the best, it was important as it was the year Porsche extended the wheelbase across the entire 911 line bringing to these cars greater dynamic stability and, at least to my eye, better looks. As tends to happen, I then came across a nice looking 911S and figured the fates must have aligned for me to feature it. So here we have a Burgundy 1969 Porsche 911S Coupe, located in New York, with a Tan interior and wonderful houndstooth inserts in the seats. It has undergone a full restoration though everything is said to be in its original colors and spec (I assume the steering wheel is not original).

3 CommentsBMW introduced the E32 generation 7-series in 1987. The car’s design was a successful blend of the old and the new. Traditional styling cues – the four headlights, square kidneys and angular lines – kept the car looking fairly restrained and clearly part of the BMW stable. But it was also eminently more modern-looking than its main competitor, the W126 chassis S-class. And perhaps a bit less stately too. If the Mercedes was a car for high level officials and diplomats, the BMW was a car for the young, new titans of the 80s and 90s; Wall Street bankers, lawyers and real estate tycoons. Both cars still look good today, and each can give even the most budget-conscious, contemporary owner a frisson of ultra luxury, albeit 30 years after the fact. But there are hardly any E32s left on the road these days. Whether because of finicky electronics, poor paint and interior materials or just wayward owners who didn’t care for them as they should have, most have been left to rot in junkyards. This makes this low mileage, nicely specified car an attractive proposition.
