2008 Volkswagen R32

1143617-3-large
One week ago today I enthusiastically wrote up one of my preferred daydream cars, the original MkIV R32. When it came out, the R32 was the superGolf I’d always dreamed of but thought only existed in Hans Dahlback’s shop of terror. The MkIVs obviously still entice me today with wide fenders, deep growls, and a VR6/6-speed/4Motion combo that makes them very special hatchbacks indeed. Where I caught myself was trying to make an argument that MkIV prices have fallen far enough to be a great performance bargain.

MkIV R32s are certainly accessible hot hatch performance, but it’s not a bargain if you can get the following model, 4 years newer with nicer equipment, a little more power, and lightning-fast DSG for the same price. This MkV R32 brings all of that and fewer miles while still ringing in around $15k. The MkV may be in the running for the least desirable generation of Golfs, but the features outweigh the generational spite. With 250hp, all wheel drive, and a very sharp interior, this is an even better performance value than last week’s blue R32.

Feature Listing: 2008 Audi S4 DTM Edition – REVISIT

If you were to walk into an Audi dealership and spec out a brand new S4, you’d find yourself $60,000 poorer. In fact, that hasn’t changed much over the past decade; the original price on the 2008 S4 shown here would have been pretty close to that amount by the time all the option boxes were ticked, too. However, while anyone can walk into a dealership today and be handed the keys to a new car, it’s not often that you get the opportunity to get into what is effectively a brand new previous generation car. But that’s exactly what we have here, and arguably the DTM S4 is the best of the normal production run. Presented in the signature Sprint Blue Pearl Effect, the DTM edition sported extra carbon fiber bits provided by quattro GmbH. The real treat, though, was underneath – the DTM edition received the same revised differential as the RS4, quite literally turning this car into more of a canyon carver than the earlier models were known to be. Shouty and fantastic, the combination of the high-revving sonorous V8, the 6-speed manual and all-wheel drive gives you the confidence to run this car much faster than legally anyone should. With only 20,000 miles covered and in near perfect condition, the opportunity to get into this package will never be so perfect again – the right color, drivetrain, and the special limited edition model at half the price of a new example makes this one special package indeed – and even comes with a warranty.

2008 BMW 335i Coupe Dinan

As I look forward to the next few years and what kind of car I might move into next, the BMW 3 series coupe is always up there on the list. This is a car that seemingly has it all, such as practicality, performance and the availability of a manual gearbox, which, sadly seems to be waning with the newer models. There is also a huge aftermarket for these coupes as well, from mild tunes to wild M3 clone iterations. This 335i Coupe for sale from our friends at EuroWerkz has been treated to some Dinan modifications, inclusive of Stage II software and camber plates.

2008 Porsche 911 GT2

It really doesn’t get much more flashy (at least among Porsches) than a Speed Yellow GT2. Beginning with the 993 Porsche began to civilize the diabolical behaviors of its 911 Turbo. By adding all-wheel drive and twin-turbocharging the Turbo retained its prodigious performance, but it now came in a more user friendly form. For the vast majority of drivers it was now faster as well since its limits could be approached more readily. Let’s be clear though, even with these added dynamic improvements the Turbo was still a very powerful machine with a rearward weight balance. After the introduction of all wheel-drive it didn’t take long for Porsche to return to its Turbo roots with a rear-drive model, the GT2. Naturally, Porsche was not only interested in running an all-wheel drive 911 in its motorsports competition and the GT2 satisfied the necessary homologation requirements for a rear-drive racer. But these are not just a rear-drive version of the Turbo. The GT2 is lighter, more powerful, and fitted with suspension and braking upgrades to suit these changes. Since its inception, the GT2 has been the ultimate 911 only recently surpassed by the GT2 RS, which in traditional RS fashion increased the weight savings and power level to produce a truly special machine. For our perusal here, we have a Speed Yellow 2008 Porsche 911 GT2, located in New York, with Black interior and 14,063 miles on it.

2008 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

I am contractually obligated to feature this car. Like anyone I have my personal favorites and while it is always difficult to narrow that list to a single vehicle, when taking in all considerations this is the car. I featured a couple different variations of the orange GT3 RS color scheme a few weeks back, though on those Orange served as the accent color rather than the primary color. Paul also recently featured one of his favorites, a Porsche Green GT3 RS with an extremely high price tag. So here is mine: an Orange over Black 2008 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. I have the model car and it has many times served as my desktop wallpaper, which I suppose is the modern day version of the bedroom poster. It’s brazen, it’s fast, it was, at its time, the ultimate version of a road-going naturally-aspirated 911 available to buy. There have been many words spilled regarding Porsche’s choice to do away with the full manual transmission for the 991 GT3 RS, but suffice it to say from my perspective it may be a long while before this car is replaced as my favorite.
