2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe

Hard to believe we are coming up on 10 years since the launch of the 991 Porsche 911 chassis. Even though they are officially 2013 model years, production of them began in mid-2012 and they were called “The new 911 Carrera” because there were some leftover 997.2 Turbos that were still produced as 2013 model years. There were no GTS or GT2/GT3 cars for this model year, so if you wanted the best, you had to go with the Carrera S model. Naturally, some who really wanted the new 911 and all the toys that went with them really went all out, and this is an example of one of those cars.

This 2013 C2S up for sale in Syracuse, New York was loaded up with a paint-to-sample exterior, carbon-ceramic brakes, the sport suspension and exhaust system, adaptive sport seats, Burmester audio, and a whole other laundry list of options. How much? Base price on one of these when new was around $120,000, but this one came in just north of $160,000. I wonder if they traded it in on a GT3 the next year?

2013 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet

I think what I’ve learned over the years is that if a color exists, Porsche isn’t afraid of it. They’ll basically paint your car almost any color for a (large) price, and then even themselves get a little cheeky when it comes to certain shades that you’d never expect. Today’s color, Cognac Metallic, can certainly be called that. The short of it is that it is very brown and not afraid to show it. Of course, it is on a cabriolet body with a dark brown soft top and an Espresso Natural leather interior as well. Who would sign up for this?

2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S

Brown cars are a funny thing. If you told someone that out of all the colors you could order a car you chose the shade the UPS man prefers, they’d probably call you nuts. However, in some cases after you see it, the results are pretty good. Of course this totally depends on what car we are talking about, but manufacturers have gotten pretty good at mixing that perfect shade that isn’t ugly or offensive. Case in point; Anthracite Brown Metallic on a Porsche 911. It very much has the strong presence of Anthracite in it, but still surely won’t be mistaken for anything but brown. Naturally, you need an interior color to match when you go all-in with the brown, so you’ll not find carbon fiber or deviated green stitching here. Lets check it out.

2013 BMW M5 Individual

I can walk down to any dealership just like anyone else, and provided I have a pulse, probably walk out with financing for most mid-range cars regardless of whether or not I could actually afford them. Indeed, easy credit has led to the proliferation of many of our favorite brands and cars to the point where most don’t feel all that special anymore. A $2,500 1990 Jetta, for example, is much more rare to see today in that condition – or, at all, truthfully – compared to a new M car.

So all modern cars aren’t really all that exciting? That’s far from the truth, too, as there are many special examples that float by our feed. So while the F10 M5 isn’t a model often featured, it’s probably our loss for not doing so. It’s also easy to forget that even though it feels pretty new, the F10 has been out of production for almost 4 years and the earliest examples are now nearly 12 years old. Plus, as most M5s do, the entry price point on the antiquated models has dropped considerably compared to their original MSRP, while their performance is still contemporaneous to today’s cars.

The S63B44T0 found under the hood of this particular example was good for 550 plus horsepower; not much more than the model it replaced with that wicked V10. But torque? That’s another matter. While the S85 cranked out an impressive 380 lb.ft at 6,100 rpms, the two turbos tacked onto the S63 V8 produced 500 lb.ft of torque with a curve as flat as the Salt Lake from 1,500 rpms through over 5,000. That massive power could be channeled through a manual gearbox, to boot!

2013 Mercedes-Benz G550

Ever since about March or so when the American passport suddenly became worthless, people who usually travel by plane to vacation spots suddenly were packing up and driving to where ever wasn’t their house. That meant normally pleasant national parks and camping spots looked like Disney World in July. That’s not a good thing. Good luck even finding a parking spot at an outdoor venue and suddenly the sleepy little resort towns in the Midwest are overrun with tourists. To combat that, people had to go even further away into some true expedition exploring, but mom’s Honda Odyssey minivan wasn’t the ideal vehicle for the job. Enter the overland rig.

The overlanding community has always been strong, but never in your face about it. You could usually tell if you saw a roof-top tent or some serious suspension and wheel/tire combo, but that was about it. Jeeps and Land Cruisers are the preferred vehicle of choice, but you’d get your Tacoma and other trucks as well. What you usually don’t see, are $100,000+ luxury SUVs, even as capable as they might be. Taking a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen into the woods and putting trail damage on one is a bad idea unless you plan on being buried in it, but it looks like this 2013 up for sale in West Virginia of all places is exactly ready for that. Notice I said “ready” and didn’t used any past tense language on that one. Let me explain.
