2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S

Brown cars are a funny thing. If you told someone that out of all the colors you could order a car you chose the shade the UPS man prefers, they’d probably call you nuts. However, in some cases after you see it, the results are pretty good. Of course this totally depends on what car we are talking about, but manufacturers have gotten pretty good at mixing that perfect shade that isn’t ugly or offensive. Case in point; Anthracite Brown Metallic on a Porsche 911. It very much has the strong presence of Anthracite in it, but still surely won’t be mistaken for anything but brown. Naturally, you need an interior color to match when you go all-in with the brown, so you’ll not find carbon fiber or deviated green stitching here. Lets check it out.

The interior is pretty much what you would expect. Luxor Beige leather with splashes of mahogany wood are more or less spot on what I thought would be inside when I first saw the exterior. I think the dark carpets work here as well, as sometimes the interior becomes too much if you go with beige carpets, and well…the light tones also shows dirt really easily. The color-matched SportDesign wheels were a fun option, and certainly adds some flare to this one. All in all it is a more tame 911, but certainly not an ugly one.

Nearly $83,000 is pretty steep for a 2013 Carrera S, but this is a 7-speed car with just 21,000 miles. I think it is probably in the ballpark for what you’d pay, but keep in mind I think the color does limit your pool of resale buyers when that time comes.

the market for 6 spd cars is pretty crazy now. Although I would call this a less than desirable color, the 6sp will trump that. For this mileage, the price seems a little high but high 70s to 80 is probably the number.

I don’t mind brown cars although it wouldn’t be my first second or even fifth choice I do agree with ‘James that the six speed market is crazy right now. If we were in a different time right now and the used 911 market behaved normally the 991.1 would be near the bottom of their depreciation curve, so probably around $60,000 for this one. No way would I be a buyer at the asking price. I would sit this craziness out and let the post COVID FOMO/YOLO buyers have at it. I’d buy one next year or the year after for much less.

The following car is the norm for the brown car results. My grandmother had a brown Chevrolet Citation with a brown velour interior and bought it from Brown Chevrolet. You just cannot make this up.

David, would that be the rare triple brown mode?

My wife’s Panamera is “Carbon Grey” which is about one shade less brown than this 991. The guts are two tone extended leather in Cognac/Cedar, which has a bit more life to it than the basic Beige.

Brown is not a color I would seek out in a sports car.
