Walk into a dealership, spend far too long with someone you would never willingly sit with, fork over a seeming obscene amount of money and you’re guaranteed of one thing; your new car is “new” until the moment you sit in it. Drive out of the dealer valet area, and suddenly the value of your car plummets. At least, that’s the predominant theory. And in most cases, that is a rule which works. But there are certain cars where depreciation isn’t really part of the equation. If you were lucky enough to buy one of these special cars, your used example may actually be worth more than a brand new one. Huh?
Has it really come to this? It has been a little while since I’ve taken serious notice of the 928 market, but I still would not have expected to see these sorts of prices. Granted these remain fantastic Grand Tourers and with the ’94 and ’95 model years you’re getting the most advanced version Porsche produced, and the last true GT Porsche has produced. The styling is timeless and only showed a gradual evolution over the model’s nearly two decades of existence culminating in the graceful curves of the GTS we see here. They’re beautiful and wonderful performers and the market appears to have really taken notice. This Grand Prix White 1994 Porsche 928GTS, located in Missouri, sits with only 16,129 miles on it and is said to be the only white GTS produced with a Tan interior. I can’t verify the veracity of that claim, but we do come across a Tan interior pretty rarely with these so even if there is more than one the overall numbers are sure to be low.
The Porsche Cayenne is always a sore subject when brought up. Often the primary transportation of upper-middle class housewives such as Carmela Soprano and alike, the Porsche purist cringes when one drives by. I like to think of this website as a preservation center for those who still enjoy changing their own gears. While the manual gearbox is disappearing from manufacturer spec sheets faster than a pack of smokes at an AA meeting, there are still a few cars out there you can have with a third pedal. Porsche is a good place to look, although the PDK Transmission is becoming the favored transmission of choice. If you’ve read this website long enough, you’ll know I don’t like SUVs. My reasons for this disdain are numerous, from people who would never use them off-road to the fact that many have aesthetics which would make a prison execution chamber look sleek. If I’m going to be forced at gunpoint to own one, it better be damn well interesting. Enter this 2009 Porsche Cayenne GTS. Sure, on the outside it doesn’t look any much different than your usual heavy beast derived from the Volkswagen Touareg, but what’s that protruding from the center console? A manual gearbox?! Yes, this is one of the very rare Cayenne GTSs to come so equipped in 2009. Apparently just over 30 of these three-pedal off-roaders were sold in 2009, this lower mileage one for sale in New Hampshire being one of them.
