Zanzibar Red 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe

Here we have a Zanzibar Red 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe. I have seen Zanzibar in the flesh only once. It’s quite rare, but I think it’s a wonderful color. The German version of its name is Orangerot perleffekt. It’s a somewhat complicated combination though does describe the color pretty well. As the name implies the color is an orange-red blend that has the added effect of pearlescent metallic that Porsche has utilized with a few different colors and especially in the ’90s. I suppose it’s kind of like if we took the old Blood Orange/Tangerine from the ’70s and then gave it some sparkle to somewhat diminish its overall showiness. On a 996TT it looks pretty electric!

The 6 Speed Manual Transmission shifts flawlessly and the 3.6L Twin Turbo 6 cylinder engine offers ample power when called upon.

This Porsche has been reviewed by an independent certified mechanic in accordance with PA state inspection regulations and it passed without issue! The front brakes measure a very deep 8mm while the rears measure in at 9mm.

All 4 Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires offer a new tread depth reading of 9/32nds.

As you’d probably guess, my primary interest with this Turbo is with the color. The car itself is relatively standard as these things go. It’s not an X50 package and that is notable, but it is otherwise a low mileage (28,235 miles) example with a 6-speed manual that looks in really nice shape. You’ll have all the usual questions about its history, none of which is supplied in the ad, and a PPI is a given. It does come with a set a pretty neat custom Zanzibar Red painted HRE wheels so if you really like the color that’s a plus. No word on the original wheels.

Back to the color. I like the chosen contrast here. While a black interior likely would have worked just fine as well I like that the original owner went with the Natural leather in the darker tan we see here. The exterior is reasonably bright and I don’t think I’d want to darken things with a dark interior. The interior also has been left mostly alone. There’s no deviated stitching or other contrasts. On this color interior I like that. Had they gone with black I’d prefer some accents to match the exterior. But overall I think this is a really attractive example in one of the very rare colors available at the time.

Unsurprisingly the price is really high, but I guess if you compare it to the $165K ask of the even more rare Gelb Orange 996TT I featured last week, the price here doesn’t look so bad!

I just bought a Cayman S from the seller. That car is immaculate and has full history. All his cars are rare color combos and in fantastic shape. That 996T looks even better in the flesh!
