Following upon the heels of yesterday’s Porsche 930 here we have a very similar looking 1979 Porsche 911SC Targa, located in Virginia. Both cars came from the 1979 MY and both have the same rare exterior color. But the devil is in the details as this SC departs from that 930 in a few interesting ways – you know, other than them being completely different models. The most obvious point of departure comes in the interior where we find pasha inserts on the seats. Like the many tartan inserts we’ve seen on other Porsches from this period the pasha inserts can be tough to love and pretty clearly date this 911 to the ’70s. For some buyers though they are just the thing to spice up the interior. We also find the cookie cutter wheels, here shown in black, a color which I’ve very rarely seen and which gives them a very subtle appearance. It also has one of the earlier whale tails for the SC and it looks much more like that of the early 930s than what we would late find on other 911s. Some documentation of its originality to this 911 will be key here.

This is a German Spec. 1979 Porsche 911SC Targa with an extremely rare blue and black Pasha (checkerboard) interior. The exterior color is Light Blue Metallic. The car was imported into the United States in 1984 and has remained with the same family since. The vehicle also came with a rare early “all-fiberglass†wing (the earliest part number for its kind). Also still outfitted with rarely seen 911 cookie cutter wheels. Targa top in good condition. This vehicle is a great driver and has been well maintained to its 117,294 miles (188,767 km). This interior with this exterior paint color give it a very unique appearance rarely seen on U.S. models. The vehicle just received a minor refreshening a year ago. This car drives and handles great and shifts smooth. Comes with original German books with dealer stamps. Please email with any questions.
When we put all of these things together there’s certainly a lot that stands out with this SC and at 117K miles the mileage isn’t too bad either. It’s well past its “low-mileage” phase and because of that a new owner should feel liberated to enjoy it as much as he or she wants. The price, on the other hand, puts us in different territory when considering a 911SC Targa. I do think that price is too high given the mileage, but the seller clearly seeks top dollar for the interesting options. If everything in that regard can be verified then this should be worth more than the typical SC, but I’m still not sure that would put us over $40K.
