We cover a lot of low mileage collectibles here on GCFSB, a point that rings especially true with a car like the 911, and we especially enjoy when those low-mileage beauties come in a unique color or represent a unique variant of that model. That said, high mileage cars can at times be equally as interesting. Sure, you have to take extra care when assessing the car’s condition, but a high-mileage car that has been well cared for can actually be in better mechanical shape than a low-mileage car whose owner neglected it. A lack of use isn’t terribly good for anything. Then there is history. Cars with higher mileage have stories (the good kind) and memories attached to them and while those memories will always remain with the owner who experienced them, there is an extra joy that comes with coming across a car that has already brought its previous owners a great deal of joy. That is, after all, what being a car enthusiast is about. All of this is somewhat of an aside, because I do not know whether this particular Carrera comes with any interesting history as the ad does not go into such detail. But it’s a 911 with some miles on it and from what we see here it looks good. The rest will require discussion with the seller. The one point that this car should possess similar to pretty much every high-mileage car is value. As miles go up, prices comes down – no surprise there. If you’re looking for a driver-quality classic 911 then perhaps this Granite Green Metallic 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, located in California, with 161,000 miles on it will suit your needs.

For Sale is a very nice 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Sunroof coupe. These G50 cars are very hard to find for sale these days. The car has 161,000 miles on the odometer but the engine received a complete engine rebuild 5K miles ago by the local Porsche shop. This is a big plus as most 3.2 engines are typically in need of a top end rebuild after 100K. The oil and filter were just done in addition to a valve adjustment after the rebuild. The car is in excellent condition both inside and out. The exterior is paint code L699 Granite Green metallic. The body is in excellent condition with no rust and it has never been in an accident. The sunroof, windows, mirrors etc. all work. It has the original Fuch wheels and the tires have a lot of tread remaining. The interior is also in excellent condition and has the original leather seats. A brand new set of seat covers from Autos international are also included. The dash does have one small crack. The car comes with the original tool kit and manuals. I have the original steering wheel and it can be put back on if you like. The original set of flag mirrors are also included in the sale. I have records going back to the early 90’s which includes the reciept for the recent engine rebuild. The A/C lines and dryer are also new. This is a very nice example of a G50 Carrera.
One day I hope to come across a Granite Green Metallic Porsche in person because, frankly, I really do not feel like I have a good sense of what this color looks like. In pictures it seems so variable depending on the lighting. We’ve seen this effect on a variety of Porsches with colors that fall within the Grey/Green spectrum and it’s an effect providing plenty of extra interest. For a pretty high mileage Carrera the condition here appears quite good. Both the interior and exterior present nicely and look more like a car with half the mileage. Bidding currently sits at $29,100 with reserve unmet and I probably wouldn’t expect that to come up too much more. For a 1988 MY that isn’t too bad a price though so hopefully this one can find itself a new owner.

160K miles, for a well taken care of 3.2 Carrera – thats nothing! Granite Green is a great color, as I usually don’t like greens. I’ll take this one all day.
Google “granite green 911” to discover the Pelican ad from 2008 when the seller couldn’t give it away for $16K!!! My how times have changed. Looks like it gained tint and about 10,000 miles during it’s time on the west coast (was in NC). Note the air conditioning was described as removed in the ’08 ad.
Granite green is a fantastic color. I saw a 88 3.2 in the flesh at Hershey this year and can confirm it really does veer toward a warm grey. I can’t stand green, and would take one of these in a heartbeat.
I had a granite green 87 targa about 12 or 13 years ago. I liked it so much I kept it for 2 years which is an eternity for me. I paid $16,500 for it with 86k miles and I sold it for $19,500 with 106k miles. I had more into it than I sold it for, I had done a lot of work on the car. It is a nice color. At the same time I owned an 89 930 in forest green, they always looked great parked together.
This car has changed hands a couple of times recently. Nice car. Makes me wonder why its sold a couple of times in the last few months for similar prices.
