1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet

Previously I featured a 930 with a Marine Blue exterior over a Linen interior. Here we’re going to sort of turn that inside out. We now have the Linen on the outside and we have the dark blue serving as accents to the interior and the convertible top. It’s not a full reversal of colors since the primary interior color is light grey. It’d have been fantastic if the interior were all dark blue though. I can imagine that would have provided for a very captivating contrast.

This is a 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet, located in California, with 83,478 miles on it. The color combination isn’t bad, but it is a bit monotone. As we can see, when used as an exterior color Linen isn’t quite silver, nor is it quite white or gold. It’s a little bit of all of them. In the sun it shines really well, but it still looks good in the shade. All together it doesn’t look too bad, though it is very much on the refined/elegant side of the spectrum. There isn’t much that’s aggressive about this 911, but that’s ok.

Chequered Flag International is pleased to offer the 1990 Porsche 964 Cabriolet in Linen Grey with light Grey interior and Dark Blue soft top. 1 owner from new with 83,478 miles, clean Carfax. Mechanically excellent and a delight to drive. Just checked and serviced by us and less than 4k miles ago it had over $10k spent on a full engine reseal that involved disassembly, replacement of all common wear items and reassembly, plus fuel pump, soft top cables, etc. Very good body with good paint. All stickers in place including option code sticker under the hood. Nice interior with un-cracked dash, good door panels and great original light color seats that do show wear more than darker ones – nothing bad just patina. Windows, seats and top work well. Comes with its books – service book has option code sticker and is stamped to 39k miles., Copious records from new to present day, its soft top boot, jack and tools. This is a much better car than is typical for a slightly higher mile 964. Great value and a very user friendly classic Porsche to own or collect. Inspections encouraged. All sales AS-IS. Sales tax and license fees due if delivered in California.

This 911 gets me back into my value shopping groove. It certainly isn’t pristine as we can tell from the various bits of interior wear. There don’t appear to be any major issues, but the wear does show on the driver’s seat pretty well. The seller has taken the optimistic route and called it patina. Maybe, maybe not. But as I said, there don’t appear to be any tears and other significant issues so we can probably live with it at this sort of price. The exterior looks in nice shape. These types of colors tend to hide dirt pretty well, but even so the paint looks good. We aren’t told whether it’s original paint so that will be worth asking, but this 911 isn’t destined for the collector bin so a respray likely won’t be too troubling, unless there’s some significant accident lurking in its history.

The best news about it is that it’s said to come with plenty of records from new. I doubt those records are exhaustive since sellers typically indicate that, but hopefully those records along with its recent servicing will provide enough insight and peace of mind to be comfortable with its present mechanical condition. As for price, bidding is only at $28,500, but even the $43,500 BIN price seems fair for a 964 Cab with this mileage. If it were a coupe it’d probably have sold pretty quickly at this price so if you prefer to cruise top down you get a discount!
