1992 Porsche 911 Turbo

Coming on the heels of the Porsche 930, the 964 Turbo had big shoes to fill and fill them it did. Utilizing an refined version of the same 3.3 liter turbocharged flat-six that powered the 930, the 964 Turbo paired a prodigious powerplant with a redesigned body, which was almost entirely new while remaining faithful to the basic profile of the car. The 964 Turbo (and the 964 in general) wouldn’t be around long and the 3.3 liter version itself possessed an even shorter life-span. But it certainly played its role and continued to bring supercar levels or performance to the marque while Porsche developed a turbocharged version of the 964’s 3.6 liter engine. This all brings us to the car featured here, a 1992 Porsche 911 Turbo, located in Raleigh, NC, sitting at right around 77,800 miles.

It doesn’t get much better than this, a 964 bodied Turbo. The wide rear end, the fantastic power, and the last series of rear wheel drive turbos. The last of the single turbo cars with a re-vamped (from the 930) 3.3L engine that produces a massive 315hp. The paint is absolutely superb. A complete bare metal respray using Glasurit high solid paint, this is arguably the best paint on the market. It is flawless. This Turbo was completely gone through from top to bottom and everything was addressed and replaced as needed. Both cosmetically and mechanically. There was over $10,000 spent (in our cost) on this car. It is need of nothing but a driver. There have been some tasteful modifications as well. An aftermarket radio receiver, 18″ OZ wheels, and a larger turbocharger were added. Nothing irreversible. It has a clean vehicle history and we have a Carfax waiting for your inspection. All air cooled Porsches have been rising quickly in value, and the Turbo cars seem to have no end in sight to high they will go. They are getting harder to find on the open market, and they aren’t making anymore of them. Everything about this 964 Turbo is fantastic. The drive, the stance, the quality, the experience all remind you why you love Porsches. You may have had a poster on your wall of this car years ago. Now, put one in your garage!

As the last of the rear-drive Turbos these will always hold a special place in Porsche history and should continue to maintain excellent value over the years. The price here appears very much on the high end, especially given that it has a couple of modifications, even if those modifications are entirely reversible. Also, it’s always worth checking into why a car needed a respray. Otherwise, this looks to be an excellent driver-quality example of the 964 Turbo. There’s a question or two to be answered, but hopefully those turn out to be nothing more than minor quibbles.

High end of the price range, but still not unreasonable. It’s at least $20k less than when it was new back in 92. Nice car – if all checks out as Rob mentions. A somewhat decent buy at this level. There are some asking For $125-150K for these already..

Looks a bit cheap if you asked me. 6 Owners hurts it, the wheels hurt it and the aftermarket turbo hurts it. All but the 6 owner history is fixable.

“all boats rise with the tide”….some just a little later than others…
    the 964 Turbo’s have finally caught up…..
six owners just tells me this car has been flipped numerous times….
service records and a really stout PPI will bear this car out or not…
    wheels are an easy fix….
this price point is not bad at all….the 3.6 964’s are getting from 150k & up! depending on mileage/condition..
I have been looking for one for 3 years now and I regret thinking that I could snag one for 50-60k…..I’m dumb!…
