1997 Porsche 911 Carrera

White is a color in vogue these days. From Audi A8s to Volkswagen GTIs, it seems to be the color of choice, whether on the auto show display or the dealer forecourt. You could almost be mistaken that this 911, one of the last of the air-cooled examples, could be a present day model in the Porsche lineup. Amazingly this sports car is nudging ever closer to twenty years of age. For sale in New York, this 993 Carrera is an overdose of white, with color matched Turbo Twist wheels complimented by a low 57,000 miles on the clock.

The 1998 Carrera S that Rob featured last week from the same seller sold for $60,000. This car was one year newer and had 5,000 more miles. So those factors may be a wash when considering this car. Color is a matter of taste, but I am drawn in by the fresh look of Glacier White in combination with the white wheels. I’d suspect this car will draw a final bid close to the aforementioned Carrera S. I do wonder, though, how much longer the late model, non-turbo, air-cooled 911 will stay below brand new 911 prices. If history can be our judge, it seems there is but one way to go with air-cooled 911 prices: up.

Completely agree with you Paul. Unless there is another world financial crisis, prices are not going down.
Although I already own a rare air cooled 911, I would pay more for another rare air cooled 911, instead of buying a brand new 2014 991.

This is not a C2S it is a plain vanilla (haha) C2 with a split grill and front bumper from a C2S. Still a great car, but does not have the “hips” of the C2S.

Just perusing the ad quickly establishes the car as a C2, not a C2S. How can you overlook such an important detail?

Apologize for the misprint. The ad has been corrected.

Very tempted to bid on this. And not for the business. For myself. 😉
