AMG cars have always been among the best performing German machines available, often with naturally aspirated engines tuned within an inch of their lives or huge V8s in a small chassis a’la the Hammer. AMG used the basic principal of big power + light car = hang on tight. In the late ’90s things at AMG went from crazy, to just plain insanity, as they started tinkering with supercharging on their AMG models.
One of the first recipients of the insanity was the W210 chassis in the form of the E55 AMG sedan. The 5.4 liter M113 AMG engine put down a laundry list of staggering performance numbers. With 349 bhp and 391 lb/ft of torque and mated to the 5-speed Touchshift automatic transmission, the E55 recorded 0-60 times as fast as 4.8 seconds, and 1/4 mile times in the low 13 second range. This amazingly kept 2001 E55 for sale in Fairfax, Virginia is a great opportunity to own an Autobahn burner.

Your comments might leave the impression this is factory supercharged. But I believe it is normally aspirated. The next gen had the supercharged model.
A friend of mine has been watching this car on ebay. He says this is the 3rd or 4th trip around with no sale. You’d that after that much feedback, the seller might get the notion that he’s asking too much for the car.
This car is located about 10 minutes away from where I live, and what an example it is. If the price was reduced to ~$16k then I would call this a hell of a deal, for an E55 with only 37,000 on the odometer.
Although I prefer the W124 model that came before this one, this still looks to be a nice car. One does need to be careful because, even with the low miles, things like superchargers don’t age well without routine maintenance. The bearing like to cook in the engines.
