Pastel Orange 2018 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS

The 991 Targa is a stunning car. There aren’t a lot of them so I don’t get a chance to see them often, but recently I walked past one parked on the street that made me stop. It was totally blacked out so it had that sinister Darth Vader vibe about it and looked great. I have always been a 911 Targa fan and there is something about the 991 Targa that appeals to me more than the design of the Coupe. Perhaps I just like the utility more of the open roof so I’ve convinced myself it’s a prettier car, or perhaps it’s the slightly different lines created by that open roof and larger rear window. Whatever it is I’m now fully on board and find myself keeping an eye out for them more and more.

So it should come as no surprise that this paint-to-sample Pastel Orange 2018 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS caught my eye. It’s new so there shouldn’t really be any questions and while that also means you could simply build your own and get it exactly how you’d like, getting a PTS allocation isn’t necessarily easy and this one is here now and ready to drive.

Lovely! This is about the polar opposite of the all black Targa I saw, but that’s okay because it’s orange. This isn’t the full bright orange of something like the 997 GT3 RS, but Pastel Orange and the slightly muted tones of the pastel are apparent here. I typically prefer my oranges as bright as possible, but not everyone wants to stand out quite like that. And, let’s be honest, it’s still orange so you aren’t exactly blending in with the family sedan parked next to you. A couple other options have been selected, notably PDK to replace the 7-speed manual, but for the most part this Targa is unique for its color. As we’ve noted before, the GTS already comes with a lot – it’s pretty much the point of the model’s existence – so there isn’t much reason to go nuts with the options. You do get some extra silver accents in the interior and an upgraded Bose stereo to narrate your drive. They’ve kept it otherwise simple. That is not a complaint.

I could quibble with a few things here and there were I configuring the perfect Targa, but for the most part other than the selection of PDK over a manual most of the selections here are perfectly fine. Those in search of their perfect configuration always will be let down slightly anyway and might as well accept the patience needed to order it exactly as desired. For the rest for whom every detail isn’t as essential, a rare PTS 911 readily available makes for a nice opportunity. If you want to stand out a bit with the roof open, this one should do the trick nicely.
