Love the recently featured Audi Coupe GTs and Audi 4000 Quattros? Well, if they’re quickly getting out of your price range there is an option few think of that combines the GT and 4000 into a unique package. Although the 4000 front wheel drive was offered early on with a 5-cylinder engine, after 1982 if you wanted that rally-bred inline-5 you had to get a Coupe GT – or did you? The revised and slightly restyled Quantum offered the 5-cylinder engine as well in “GL5” form, both front and all wheel drive. They’re rare to find in good shape and most hold out for the Syncro wagons, but if you’re looking for a unique daily driver Volkswagen this GL5 in Tornado Red may just fit the bill:

1980s BMW M cars have been stars on the rise over the past few years. It is hard to believe these days, but there was a point in the not-too-distant past where you could buy a E30 M3 for below $10,000 – and a nice one at that! Not only that, but E28 M5s have been suddenly for sale in the high teens for even worn copies and the venerable M6 is rare to see much below $20,000 in reasonable shape. What is an enthusiast to do? Well, sometimes that means you need to take a bit of a risk if you want to enter the wonderful world of M, and today I’ve got just the car to roll the dice on – a Christmas red 1988 M6:

4 CommentsPerhaps its nostalgia or living out a dream never fulfilled, but as time marches on, I want to find a way to get into a mint condition W126 S class. An icon of the 1980s, this is a car that is still revered for its balance of classic and modern styling with durability and luxury buyers had come to expect from Mercedes-Benz up to that point. This Midnight Blue 300SEL for sale in New Jersey has to be one of the lowest mileage examples of any W126 I’ve seen in the past few years of writing for GCFSB.

6 CommentsLet’s face it: there’s a gap in the US lineup at Volkswagen. I’m looking at you, Scirocco. On a visit to Lisbon, Portugal earlier this year, I admired the white example I saw sitting in the showroom floor in a dealer in the middle of the city. Nevermind the neat little Up sitting right next to it. True, the Scirocco is not much more than a Golf with a fancy body, but some people want that extra style. Let’s look at the last two coupes that Volkswagen offered stateside, a late model Scirocco 16V and a Corrado SLC VR6.

As the weather turns colder and as I think about my holiday travel plans, my mind inevitably begins to wander and I begin to think about the prospects of a GT car. I don’t have a commute where such a car would make sense but for those that do (or those who simply want a better way to travel) a GT makes such a compelling case as a consideration for space in any enthusiast’s garage. The Porsche 928 remains a favorite of ours here at GCFSB. With styling that barely appears to have aged, especially considering that the style of the model itself changed little from its 1977 debut, the 928 is a car that remains fresh even now and since the market has been slow to embrace these cars, a good example can still be had at a fairly reasonable cost. Here we have an excellent looking 1988 Porsche 928 S4 located in Missouri. With more than 300 hp coming from the 5.0 liter V8 these cars offered nice performance in an attractive package. As an added plus, this particular 928 S4 comes with a 5-speed manual transmission.
