2003 BMW 530i

The BMW E39 is a favorite of mine, along with a good number of our readers here at GCFSB. Whether it’s the sedan or Touring model, 525i or beastly M5, the entire lineup is appealing. We featured a 530i last week and here’s another one, but this one has the proper OEM wheels and looks a lot more tasty in black.

This is certainly a rare chance to get a nearly new E39 530i, but at almost $17,000, you are approaching M5 money. For some, the M5 might be just a little too much, but $14,000 or $15,000 is about as good as it gets for a clean 530i these days. I’d of course rather have the 5-speed manual, but I certainly wouldn’t pass up a mint condition E39 like this if I was in the market. Even though this car is not that old, I’d wager to say that 20 years on, the styling will still look fresh.

Theme Week: 2003 Audi S6

For years if you owned an Audi S car, you had something that few knew about, and fewer owned; you were an aficianato.  The C5 Audi S6 Avant represents the point right before S cars entered the main stream radar, and became a performance staple along with BMW M, and AMG.

This car represents the subtlety, that many have grown to love in the earlier Audi S cars.  This car has great eyes, the Ming Blue on white leather is one of the classiest color combinations Audi offers.  With 92,240 miles, this is well below average miles for its age, and the condition of the paint and interior reflect that.  Mechanically this car offers the stout audi 4.2 V8, which aside from the 034 code inline 5s is Audi’s longest running, and most reliable engines.  The greatest concern I have with this car, and VAG cars of this generation is the tiptronic gearbox, some variations have been known to have valve body issues resulting in quirky shifting, and even failure.

With an asking price of $14,500, the seller took the price straight from NADA.  Given the condition of this car, the one owner status, and the rarity of these wagons, I’d say that the $14,000 ballpark is reasonable for the buyer that wants the ideal sports wagon for all seasons.

Depreciation special: 2003 Audi RS6 for Civic Money

Time for another foray into our continuing investigation of German supersedans whose value has plummeted more than 75%. Today is perhaps my favorite example of this group, the Audi RS6. A beast when it was born nearly 10 years ago, it’s no less monstrous today packing. While some choose big-displacement power and some go for turbochargers, Audi decided both would suffice in making an executive saloon that could spank contemporary Porsches. This subdued excess is my kind of indulgence, and watching their prices drop makes my dream garage tingle. The last RS6 we had was $19k with 116k miles. An additional 10k miles on this one brings a $1k price drop, ringing in at that most pedestrian of new-car prices, $17,995. Sure, there’s no warranty and it’ll surely demand plenty in maintenance, but these are massively outweighed by the fun and badass factor in my eyes.

Audi’s S- and RS- models have held a more consistent trajectory than some ///other performance divisions. While perhaps more subtle from the get-go, this has allowed them to be civilized without ever being called “too watered-down,” and this RS6 plays a big role in that family tree. Beefy, scary fast, and unabashedly made for road driving, these are near the top of my Audi RS fantasies. With prices coming firmly into the teens it’s becoming possible to stash a reasonable maintenance account for the inevitable transmission work, skip the brand-new car, and haul some big-boy ass.

Reader Ride: Dinan Tuned 2003 BMW M3 For Sale

It has been a year since I saw my E39 M5 loaded on a truck bound for Minneapolis.  How time flies and I miss her dearly, that moment when you grab your keys and realize you are driving something truly exceptional.  Since then I have driven some fine cars, many I would consider amusing to drive but nothing combines the raw power and eyeball of the E39 M5.

Great car!  If I don’t say it someone else will, the price is a tad optimistic.  But, this M5 looks turn key.  When I bought my M5 it needed tires, the wheels had to be refinished, had to replace OBD due to missing pixels, upgraded the nav to DVD, and you get the point.  By the time I was done I was into my car $25k and it was nowhere near the beast that this //M is.  These repairs are quite common, this car on the other hand is quite uncommon.

Best of luck on the sale, stick to your guns and you will find someone looking for a well kept ’03 with Dinan tuning.

2003 Audi RS6 for sale

The RS6 has always been an object of lust for me. The dark silver it usually comes in has always been a shining example for me of how great the right car can look in what amounts to a shade of grey. Thus, I was surprised when this black example caught my eye with such ferocity. The black looks lethal with those flared wheel arches, and makes the silver mirrors and grill trim pop like I haven’t seen. Matched with the well-documented beast under the hood and a sub-$20k price, this is one hot Audi.

I hate eBay dealers for their absolute lack of “description.”

That said, 116k miles is within reason, and the $19k Buy-It-Now is a great deal for a car that was more than 4 times that new. If only it were a wagon and manual, it would be perfect. As we never got either of those (damn you, German car companies! Just kidding, I love you… but really), this would have to do as the ultimate mountain mobber. You’ll just have to rent skis instead of taking your own, but that should be no problem with what you have left over from this deal.

Low-mileage 2003 Audi RS6 for sale

Before Audi started RS-ifying every model it could, they had a tacit policy of only letting one model of RS out at a time, and rarely at that: first the venerable RS2 in 1994-1995, then the sexy RS4 in 2000-2001, then breaking the chain of Avants and Eurocentrism with the understated monster RS6 finally gracing our shores from 2002 to 2004. This was no quickened divorcee’s TT or beefed-up college student’s A3. While I am glad Audi is making those cars (it’s better than not), the RS6 comes from a purer time when hyper-powered civilian cars were the exception and not the rule and it, along with the E39 M5 and E55, terrified unsuspecting civilians. When I head back to the island I grew up on, I still take the long way home to see if the RS6 is parked outside that one house.

The ad is mainly dealer exclamation points and stats any good German car fan should know by heart, but the beauty is in the numbers. 450hp, 4.6 seconds 0-60, 56k miles, Buy-It-Now at $27.9k. 56k miles is pleasantly low for an 8 year-old driver’s car, and this would be one hell of a ride if you can snag it around $25k. It’s in the perfect hue of Daytona Gray Pearl, and while the white leather is slightly garish, I’d take it.

Just truly one of my favorite sedans ever made, and while the typical Audi maintenance will probably catch up with you, it’s still dangerously close to “affordable” in my book. I want it.

2003 MINI Cooper S, Original Owner, 37k Miles

OK, so it may be half German, but BMW had enough influence in the design of the new MINI in 2002 that I thought it wouldn’t hurt to include one, as it has been almost a year since we featured one here on GCFSB. Here we have an early example of the Cooper S with low miles being sold by its original owner.

I am the private owner of this very low miles Mini Cooper S. It has 37,400 miles and comes with an after market Borla exhaust and K&N airfilter. The car has new brakes, brand new tires and a fully documented, paid check up inspection from a local Mini specialist. Mechanically, the car is perfect. I suspect it is one of the lower mileage 2003 Mini’s in the area. Car is black with dark grey interior. Fully loaded options to include iPhone jack and sunroof. However, no nav. Clean car fax. This has been our driver for the last few years. Never a problem. A very special low miles MINI S.

Based on the year and mileage, it’s fair to say this example will probably sell in the $12k to $14k range. For those following this board, you might have seen my Mercedes-Benz C230 up for sale. I sold it to a close friend last week and purchased a 2006 Cooper S with the 6 speed manual for just a little over $15k. I’ve owned an E30 BMW 325is, two Volkswagen GTIs with the 2.0 engine and two Mercedes-Benz C230 sedans (a W202 and W203). This Cooper S is hands down my favorite car I have ever owned. It’s small without being cartoonish, the supercharged and intercooled engine provides effortless power in every gear and the handling is beyond reproach. I’ve bonded with this car in a way I never did with my last Mercedes. This much is certain, I won’t be letting the mighty Cooper S out of my grasp anytime soon. Hopefully this particular MINI featured here finds a good home.

2003 Mercedes S55 AMG Kleeman headers pulley upgrade

We see a lot of fairly new cars that just get crushed with depreciation. That leaves some great opportunities for secondhand buyers.

This 2003 S55 had an M.S.R.P. north of $100,000 and now can be had for $22,500. 75,000 miles on the car, which looks pretty clean. The interior looks great considering its light color.

With the addition of a Eurocharged 180mm pulley, Kleeman headers and tune added to the already potent supercharged engine, your probably looking at close to 550 horsepower and gobs of torque.

Sure you could buy yourself a nice brand new car with a warranty for this price, but it certainly won’t have the presence of this top of the heap German luxury sedan. If you don’t mind paying top dollar here is another chance for instant gratification for the holidays.

Nearly Identical Audi RS6s for sale

So, you’ve got $32k and you’re ready for a new car. You want fun, but somewhat sensible. You like AWD and its many virtues. You’re inclined to enjoy the German flare for speed, class, and impeccable engineering. From these hints, I could point you to a brand-new VW R32. Fun car, all-season capability with AWD, German quirks and perfection abound.

Or you could go big. And I mean REAL big. 450-hp, earth-wrenching big. The Audi RS6 is one of the few RSs that we Staters have been blessed with, and man do I love it. It’s subtle, but the aggressive bits are there in the wheels, fenders, and front and rear fascias. It’s hiding a total monster of a twin-turbo 4.2L V8. And now, 7 years after their introduction, they’ve come down in price.  Way down, like 50-60% down.  There are 2 nearly identical examples on eBay, each in the 50k mile-range and in exceptional condition. One has a Buy-It-Now of $32k, one is under reserve at $16k.

Yes, yes, I know these will be more expensive to maintain than an R32 (but maybe not that much…), and that a used car is not equal to a new car.  In my mind, getting a lot more car for your money is well worth it instead of going on the depreciation rollercoaster that is new-car buying.  It’s a tough decision between these two, but something about the white interior seems a little more special, so I’d sit on that auction and try to get it at a good price.  If it could come in under the $32k of the other one, all the better.  But seriously, one of these beasts under $40k is still a ton of car per dollar.

Clean & Cheap 2003 Audi Allroad for sale

If you’re looking for a car that can do it all, you’d be hard-pressed to something more versatile than the Audi Allroad Quattro.  Though still sold around the world based on the newer A6, we only got them in the US from 1999-2005, but I consider us lucky for getting it at all.  Based on the classy C5 A6, it was imbued with inherent luxury with a great interior and commanding presence.  There was plenty of sportiness to tap into, with the 2.7L twin-turbo V6 shared with the S4 providing ample, if not earth-shattering, power, and an adjustable suspension that could lower enough to mimic a sport-package A6.  Speaking of that adjustable suspension, it could also lift the Allroad to create 8 inches of ground clearance.  The advanced suspension combined with the legendary Quattro allowed the Allroad to be the only car-based SUV to complete an official Land Rover off-road course, which I think is totally awesome.  So, it’s sporty, luxurious, quite capable off-road and has tons of wagon-space.  Yep, awesome.

This clean example on eBay used to be a corporate car, and has thus covered only 78k miles.  It has a few dings and scratches, but they’re all minor and  quickly fade away when you see the Buy-It-Now of just $8500.  That’s less than a fifth of what it sold for 7 years ago.

I think this is a total steal.  You have to be careful with these Allroads for electrical problems and issues with the fancy suspension, but still: you are getting a ton of car, and an impressively multi-faceted car at that, for a great price.  It being a corporate car, it’s probably been well taken care of.  I’d prefer the manual, but those are extremely rare, and I’m just getting nitpicky.  Go anywhere and look good doing it, for these cars are truly ready to dominate all roads.
