1991 Mercedes-Benz 300CE

Buying any used car carries some sort of risk and gamble. Probably even more so with a used German car because of the potential disaster that some cars may bring. The majority of the time, you trust yourself to form an opinion if the car is worth it based off what you understand and what the seller is telling you about the car. Most of the time this works out pretty well for both parties involved. Generally as the stakes get higher and the cars get more expensive, the more due diligence is done with research and inspections. Sometimes you can sniff out a car pretty quickly but other times you might need a really keen eye to see what is really going on. For today’s car, a 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300CE for in Brooklyn, maybe isn’t all that is presented to be by the seller. Let me explain why.

1994 Mercedes-Benz E320

Last week I looked at a 1994 Mercedes-Benz E320 that on the surface didn’t look all that bad. But when I (and our readers) started really checking it out, it turned out to be a mess. It seems that the eBay bidders agreed as well as it sold for just $1,604, a number much lower than I guessed. I have to admit, for that kind of money I probably wouldn’t have cared all that much because when we are talking about a $1,600 car, just running and driving usually makes it worth it. Since everyone balked pretty hard at that car, I thought I’d make it up to everyone and check out another 1994 E320. This example up for sale in Florida is painted in Malachite Green Metallic, which is actually a popular Porsche color too, looks great and the interior holds up just as well too. The price? It might surprise you.

Double Take: 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet

In my long affinity for the Mercedes-Benz W124 Cabriolet, I have featured all kinds of examples. Rare color ones, expensive ones and even ones with V8s swapped into them. So naturally when I come across one in my cruise around the internet, I usually take a quick peek at it. Today’s W124 Cabriolets, a Signal Red example for sale in California and a black one listed in Connecticut, are both prime examples of these amazing drop top cruisers. You’d probably have a tough time finding any faults at all on either of these cars, but what if I told you that one was literally twice the price as the other? Yes, I’m serious.

1994 Mercedes-Benz E320

I was thinking the other day about another daily driver and what it might be. It is not that I am unhappy in my Mercedes-Benz W116 and W123, but on these cold days I just wish I had a little more creature comforts and a heater that was a little stronger than just enough to keep my teeth from chattering. Naturally, the W124 came to mind and specifically the face-lifted E320. They are still relatively inexpensive to buy, they are ergonomically flawless, simple enough to maintain at home and reliable enough that you won’t be scared to death to drive it everyday in fear of something happening. When I saw this 1994 painted in Midnight Blue pop up for sale outside of Philadelphia, the gears in my head started turning. But once I really got a close look at this W124, I wasn’t about to jump on board just yet. At least not for this specific example.

1994 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet with 6,700 miles

These ultra-low mileage cars always intrigue me in more ways than one. How have they held up after so many years of just sitting? How has the maintenance been handled despite only having a handful of miles a year? But this biggest thing I wonder is was it worth it, literally, to let the car sit and preserve its pristine condition. Today’s car, a 1994 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet that checks in with a little over 6,700 miles, isn’t your typical used car to begin with. I’ve covered the C124 pretty extensively and we’ve even featured some really nice examples here for sale. But for this 1994 for sale in New York, is it worth the giant price tag for the so little miles?
