2008 Mercedes-Benz S550 with 2,731 miles

We feature ultra low-mileage cars every so often and the majority of the time they are cars that you could understand why someone didn’t pile miles on. They are usually low-production cars that could be seen as collectibles or future collectibles. Today’s car is a little different. This 2008 Mercedes-Benz S550 was mass-produced and made to be disposable in every way. Mercedes knew these cars just had to be good enough for five or so years until their bread and butter buyers trade it in for a new S-Class and hope the cycle never ends. Thanks to an unfortunate set of circumstances, this W221 has just 2,731 miles on it and looks like you might expect a nearly-new S550 to look. With prices of these cars now in the mid-teens, what you expect to pay for this prime example?

2011 Mercedes-Benz E550 Coupe

I don’t write about a lot of newer cars because honestly, I think outside of a few models, they are all pretty boring and soft. Today’s car, a 2011 Mercedes-Benz E550 Coupe, isn’t exactly the most exciting car in the world and it certainly isn’t all that rare. It is rather fast though with 382 horsepower that will get it to 60 mph in the high four second range. But that isn’t why I wanted to check out one of these. It isn’t necessarily what this E550 Coupe is, but rather what it isn’t.

2007 Mercedes-Benz CL550 Cabriolet

Some things never change. One of those things just happens to be people cutting the roof off Mercedes-Benz coupes and adding convertible tops. I’m not kidding. They did it with the C126, they did it with the C140 and they did it with the C215. Naturally, they did it with today’s car, a 2007 CL550, up for sale in Florida. Thankfully for everyone, Mercedes started doing it themselves with the 2015 S-Class convertible that looks amazing in my eyes. The biggest problem with these conversions is that they are clunky. Adding a convertible top to a car is no easy feat and those who do it as an afterthought always face an uphill battle. It’s one thing to make everything function smoothly and actually work, but it is a whole other challenge to make it look good. Most of the time when the top canvas is folded down, it creates an ungainly mass of metal and fabric sticking up behind the rear seats. This not only looks bad, but has horrible wind noise and causes visibility problems. Nevertheless, people still do it because people still buy them for whatever reason. As for this specific car? I have a no idea why anyone would ever consider it. Let me explain why.

2015 Mercedes-Benz G550 6×4

Just when I thought I’ve seen everything, I see something new. It is probably pretty easy to see why I’m featuring this vehicle today, but it’s what it’s lacking that has me surprised. This is a 2015 Mercedes-Benz G550 6×4. Yes, a 6×4. It’s pretty crazy to think that a 6×6 G-Wagen is almost normal to me now, but a 6×4 is an entirely new way to get your six wheel kicks. From what I understand, this G started out as your normal G550, then had another rear end tacked on the end with an axle that isn’t connected to the driveshaft but the braking system is entirely functional. Inside, all the extra room from the extended body work gives you another row of seats and the regular capacity in the hatch area. Surprisingly, all this work looks pretty good and might even pass as a factory job if you are squinting hard enough. But of course, all this comes at what cost?
