1978 Porsche 911SC Targa

Have you ever been looking over a car and thought, “This looks surprisingly good!” and then gotten to the interior pictures and suddenly, “Whoa”? So that’s pretty much what happened to me with this Grand Prix White 1978 Porsche 911SC Targa. There’s certainly nothing very flashy about it; it’s a white 911SC, but it does look good. That white paint shows good pop for the color and given its age it looks in pretty good condition. This is a driver-quality SC, there’s no doubt there, but that’s not really a fault. It’s a good car that’s probably brought its current owner – said to have owned it since 1980 – a good deal of driving pleasure.

The interior does bring with it a little flash. It’s a special order white and black combination and it really wasn’t what I was expecting. From the exterior pictures I could tell the interior was a lighter shade, but the black/white combination wasn’t apparent. It isn’t flashy in the way a Can-can Red interior would have been on a white 911SC, but it does bring with it a particular character that is quite unique. But does it work?

1992 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Targa

1992 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Targa

Yesterday I wrote up a 911SC priced at top market (perhaps even above top market) and I will stick with that general theme here simply as an exploration of where some of these high priced cars are selling. That 911SC probably shouldn’t have been priced as high as it was given its overall condition and mileage. It’s a nice car, just not top market.

However, this Guards Red 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa is befitting of that sort of price. The question simply is just how high the market has reached because the asking price here is quite a bit above the standard 964 pricing we typically see. That’s not unheard of for the 964 Targa because they’re pretty rare and from my experience the vast majority really don’t seem to be in great shape and have much higher miles. If we remove those issues do we have a six-figure car? Here is where we might find out.

1971 Porsche 911S Targa

1971 Porsche 911S Targa

I won’t proclaim this as the greatest 911 in the world or anything of that sort, but this 1971 Porsche 911S Targa does check a lot of the boxes for what we might look for in an early 911 when not looking for absolutely pristine collector-quality condition. It is coming out of long-term ownership as the current owner has had it since 1974 and it is in mostly original condition. It is numbers matching per the CoA and has had one repaint in its original color of Gold Metallic. The interior is mostly original with only the carpets having been replaced and shows a nice looking set of sport seats. The color itself is an uncommon one and certainly has its fans. Overall everything looks in very good shape and the level of originality here appears quite good. Oh, and of course it is the highly desirable 911S.

It doesn’t pop off the page the way some early 911s do, but it definitely shows as one of the better and probably more original examples we see.

Pastel Orange 2018 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS

The 991 Targa is a stunning car. There aren’t a lot of them so I don’t get a chance to see them often, but recently I walked past one parked on the street that made me stop. It was totally blacked out so it had that sinister Darth Vader vibe about it and looked great. I have always been a 911 Targa fan and there is something about the 991 Targa that appeals to me more than the design of the Coupe. Perhaps I just like the utility more of the open roof so I’ve convinced myself it’s a prettier car, or perhaps it’s the slightly different lines created by that open roof and larger rear window. Whatever it is I’m now fully on board and find myself keeping an eye out for them more and more.

So it should come as no surprise that this paint-to-sample Pastel Orange 2018 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS caught my eye. It’s new so there shouldn’t really be any questions and while that also means you could simply build your own and get it exactly how you’d like, getting a PTS allocation isn’t necessarily easy and this one is here now and ready to drive.

1980 Porsche 911SC Targa

1980 Porsche 911SC Targa

Here we have a Casablanca Beige Metallic 1980 Porsche 911SC Targa, located in Chicago, with Tan interior and 68,747 miles on it. We’ve seen Casablanca Beige on the 911SC before. However, I find that this one looks much better. I don’t know if the photos have been touched up or if the lighting simply is different, but there is a rich burnt orange or darker gold hue to this Targa that I haven’t seen in previous examples of this color. I suspect in person it will look similar to those other examples. That said, this is the first I’ve seen it on a Targa and the various Targa trim pieces and larger rear glass may be playing a role in this shift in color. I’m not really sure. Regardless, it’s a very unique color and I think here it’s looks great.
