1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe

I’ve been having better luck coming across classic 911s for much more reasonable cost of entry lately, but what about once we move past those years? Do we find the same with the 964 and 993? That seems more of a mixed bag – though perhaps it’s not mixed at all with regard to the 993 as they remain fairly expensive – but this 964 does seem quite reasonable. Even better it’s up for auction with no reserve. Here we have a Guards Red 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe, located in Illinois, with Black leather interior and 113,045 miles on it. When Porsche debuted its fully redesigned 911 as the 964 with it they debuted a new model: the all-wheel drive Carrera 4. Following in the footsteps of the all-wheel drive 959, the new Carrera 4 provided more dynamically stable driving for the rear-biased 911. Purely in terms of performance and driver engagement I’m not sure it’d be the preferred avenue, but as Porsche has always prided itself on its blend of performance and refinement the all-wheel drive setup was a logical progression in the 911’s life.

Local trade-in from one of our existing customers. Here’s your chance to own a piece of rare Porsche history with this air cooled beauty. Classic 911 body lines with updated appearance items and mechanical technology is what sets the (964) 911’s apart.

Stunning “Guards Red” exterior paint offset with clean black leather interior is timeless. Vehicle runs and drives excellent. Power sunroof, power windows, power seats and other equipment appear to be working as designed. Radio code is missing for the factory radio unit. Vehicle is all original and there are no signs of rust or bubbling on the cowl, jambs, or any other panels. I cannot verify for sure that there is no previous paint, but appears to be original and is bright and shiney. No major cosmetic blemishes inside and out. Inteior panels and leather items are in very good condtion with no rips, tears, or excessive wear spots. Vehicle has a clean IL title and clean CarFax history.

Like a lot of 911s we see at this sort of price there isn’t a lot to inform us about this 964’s condition beyond the pictures. What we see though does look good. The paint looks in nice shape and presents well. The dealer can’t verify whether it’s been repainted so a paint meter could come in handy. We find a similar situation in the interior where the wear looks minimal and everything appears to be original. Given its age and mileage we can probably surmise that this 911 has been treated well throughout its life, but the usual caveat of a PPI of course applies. For a chance at a nice looking early 964 for not a ton of money this one could be quite promising. The no reserve auction currently sits unbid upon with the opening bid set at $30K and only two days remaining. If its mechanical condition checks out, then a late bidder might find himself with a really nice value for this 911.
