I’m going to move away from ridiculous cars and back to the attainable (and driveable) examples that we all cherish so much. The 964 holds an interesting place in the 911 lineup transitioning from the classic design to the more modern design of the 993. While generally considered the first modern 911, its appearance more closely aligns it with what came before while its engineering clearly had taken significant strides toward what was to come. It wasn’t a much loved model in its day, but the 964 has begun to garner increasing respect and we are always on the look out for interesting examples. The one we have here, a one-owner Velvet Red Metallic 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Targa, certainly fits that description and should make for a really nice option for anyone looking to get into a 964, whether for the first time or as an addition to the stable.

This is a one owner, ALL ORIGINAL PAINT, ALWAYS residing in California, C2 Targa 964 in rare, factory, Velvet Red and with only 77,000 miles, all original and heated seats. 75,000 mile service completed in 2012 ($8700 spent). Fantastic shape. Runs, drives and handles well. Paint is original and was metered to confirm. No accidents. Interior excellent for it’s age, supple gray leather. Original working radio. Targa top in excellent condition. I have the books, manuals and service history which document original, single ownership. Clean California Title and CarFax. Private Party sale.
Light Grey interiors aren’t typically my favorite, but I really like this one. It works well with the lighter, and somewhat brighter, red of the Velvet Red exterior and there’s enough black accent inside to provide good contrast. I do always wonder how much of a pain an interior like this is to keep clean – perhaps it’s the interior version of having a black car – but when clean it looks just that: clean. That gives it a nice airiness to go along with the targa. The combination is surely quite rare as this is the first Velvet Red 964 I’ve come across and while grey interiors aren’t hugely uncommon on a 911 they do remain much more rare than black or tan. All told this looks like a nice 911 with very reasonable mileage for its age. With a $48,800 asking price I imagine this one might hang around for a little bit, but perhaps the color combination will be enough to entice buyers into at least getting some negotiations going.
