If you know, you know. That was the general consensus if you owned a Mercedes-Benz G-Class in the United States prior to 2002. You couldn’t just ride on down to the local dealer to cut a check for a G-Wagen, you had to actually call up Europa International to cut an even bigger check. However, even knowing what Europa International was in the infancy of the internet was a big accomplishment, let alone actually buying a G from them.
Today, we have one of the pre-2002 G-Wagens that reportedly is still with its original owners. That counts for something, right?

Sadly, these photos leave a lot to be desired. From what I can see, this 2000 is one of the later builds in the model year that has the updated steering wheel and gauge cluster to the more modern unit, which almost all the models in the line switched to at the time. That is a big plus if you want to see stuff like miles to empty because goodness knows you watch the fuel gauge enough in these. The reality is that outside of the center console not having the COMAND unit, there really isn’t anything different between a 2000 Europa and a US-market 2002. Yes, there are some other small changes like the position of the seat controls, but nothing that is going to be majorly different.
Right now, an asking price of $37,000 for 100,000 miles seems to be on market. As long as the service checks out, I’d say that is in the ballpark as to what this one is worth. Even more so if you want one in blue. Cool find that probably won’t last too much longer.

There was a family at my school growing up that had one of these from Europa around this time. They had a high speed rollover on the highway with everyone inside. Escaped with minor injuries and all of the doors still opened after rolling several times. Can’t beat that old MB build quality.
