We haven’t featured Porsche’s Cayman GT4 in a while and since this is probably my current favorite offering from the marque – I’m going to ignore the 911R for now – I wanted to revisit one of these. Since they became available it hasn’t been difficult to find a GT4 for sale second-hand and prices have unsurprisingly been pretty high. Most have virtually no mileage. This one is a little different: it’s an auction so we may have a better shot at a more reasonable price and this has a couple thousand miles on it. Nothing significant, but well past break-in. In that regard it qualifies much more as a used car than most of the others. The real distinguishing feature of this GT4, however, is the color. I have seen very few in Guards Red. I’m not sure why that would be the case since it’s a standard color, but for fans of Guards Red – and a car like this really begs for a color like this – this GT4 may serve as a pretty nice opportunity at a lightly used example.

During my searches around the internet for cool cars, every once in awhile I run across an ex-utility vehicle that catches my eye. This is one of those vehicles. A 1969 Mercedes-Benz L408 G Auxiliary Fire Van. Originally commissioned for Fire Department of Heide in Northern Germany, this van has all the pros of owning a fire vehicle without all the cons of owning a fire truck — most notably finding a place to park it. So let’s take a deeper look at this cool old van up for sale in Santa Barbara, California.

Comments closedAfter last week’s auctions, I’ll turn to a 911 that would have been right at home being featured at any one of them. Desirable model, very reasonable mileage, apparent pristine condition, and an elegant color combination. While perhaps not as rare as some of the models we see reach top dollar at those auctions, this 993 Turbo would certainly hold its own and its buyer could take it home knowing that he wouldn’t have to preserve it under cover at every moment. Sure, we’re not likely to see it banging around with a set of snow tires in mid-January, but it still can be enjoyed quite a bit when the weather turns nicer. So here we have an Arena Red 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo, located in Houston, with Marble Grey leather interior and 38,300 miles on it.

1 CommentJust three days ago we looked at an impressive 1980 Volkswagen Scirocco. Condition was great and it was full of period details, but I mentioned I’d prefer a stock example. My wish came true, as an absolutely stunning original 1981 came to market immediately after. Looking splendid in Alpine White over Gazelle cloth, it is presented in near stock configuration and really lets the near perfect lines Giugiaro penned show through. The 1980 failed to meet its reserve at $10,100, but this auction is a no reserve deal with very active bidding. How high will this perfect ’81 go?

1 CommentBack in 1993, if you hopped down to the local Mercedes-Benz dealer and asked for a 600SL, they’d gladly give to you — in exchange of giving them almost $130,000. If you somehow were dissatisfied with the car in terms of performance, you called up Mercedes super-tuner RENNtech and told them to do their thing with it — in exchange of another $60,000. Now doing some quick math here, we are at a grand total of around $190,000. Keep in mind we are still talking in terms of 1993 money. To put that in perspective, that’s over $316,000 in 2016 dollars. And you thought a drug addiction was expensive! So what did this insane amount of money buy you?
