I like cars that have names. There tends to be a history attached to them that makes the entire package more interesting. This 1970 Porsche 911T is named Albert because the exterior is painted Albert Blue. Ok, so it isn’t a very original name, but it works. What is original is almost everything else on this 911. The paint from which Albert got its name is not original, though it is said to be the correct color per the CoA. The radio is an updated unit of the original and the seller thinks the dash pad has been replaced, but that can’t be confirmed. The engine and transmission have both been rebuilt, but are matching to the car. So we’re not looking at a 100% as-it-left-the-factory 911, but among early examples in unrestored condition this is one of the better and most original I can recall seeing. The seller describes it as one of the “most honest” he’s seen and that seems a fitting description. This is no garage queen or expertly restored 911 where every nut and crevice gleams. But it presents really well and has had a nice life. Cheers Albert!

1970 Opel GT

Generally speaking, engine swaps are usually an improvement over the stock running gear even when they’re home brews. And if you’re really clever with your swap, you can end up making quite the sleeper; V8 powered Volvo wagons come to mind. But some people go over the top, and throw an absolutely crazy motor into a car which was never designed to have anywhere near the power levels capable of the new mill. Such is not the case here. That’s because the builder of this Opel GT designed that the popular adage “There’s no replacement for displacement” meant putting a V8 into the nose of the diminutive GM product. And by “a”, I actually mean two V8s. In an attempt to dispel the notorious “Mini-Corvette” moniker, this GT tops out at 11.4 liters of American muscle with just a bit of Opel sprinkled into the mix. Though far from our usual flavor, let’s take a look at this crazy creation:

In the movie Eight Mile, Eminem’s character was engaged in a rap battle. Stick with me, this is going somewhere. Challenge after challenge fell to Eminem’s funny yet cutting commentary in response to attacks on his character and upbringing, but when it came to the final he had to go first. There was an awkward pause where it seemed as though he’d choke, but then in a brilliant stroke of cunning, Eminem launched a barrage of insults – on himself. By taking away the enemy’s typical weapon, there was no response but to accept that he was just a great rapper. “Here, tell these people something they don’t know about me” Eminem taunts as he hands the mic to his opponent.

So, let’s discuss the 3,200 lb elephant in the room. Being an E9, this 2800CS has had rust. It also has a branded title, thanks to an accident in its history at a time when the value of these cars was fairly low. But do you know what? The previous owner and the seller combined efforts to keep this beautiful classic going. It’s been upgraded and attended to, and while it still has needs it is far from a project to run away from. This is drawn into sharper contrast as its replacement, the E24, has been steadily gaining value. Seemingly heading towards the cusp of being unaffordable for many enthusiasts, the highlights of the 6 series are shared with its predecessor; shark-like nose, a beautifully low waistline that elongates the silhouette, a sweeping roofline that it just perfect in execution. In fact, with so much attention focused now on snapping up E24s before they too become unobtainium, it’s the perfect time to consider this E9:

1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE Cabriolet

In the last few years, the Mercedes-Benz lineup has grown substantially. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any bigger, along comes the S-class Cabriolet. While the myriad of SUVs that Mercedes sells are responses to growing trends in the marketplace, the S-class Cabriolet is a revival of an old theme, the car you see here: the 280SE Cabriolet. The 280SE Coupe and Cabriolet were the swan song of the W111 chassis, with production of the 3.5 V8 variant lasting through the summer of 1971. This restored 1970 280SE Cabriolet for sale in Chicago is fitted with a 4-speed manual gearbox, an option not often seen on these grand tourers.

1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL

Just over a month ago, I featured a 1971 Pagoda that is so similar to today’s car that I actually thought it was the same car when I first looked at the listing. Luckily, it’s not, but I thought I’d investigate this one a little further because who doesn’t love a nice Pagoda? (except that forsaken 1969 in NYC we all screamed in horror over) So lets take a look at this surprisingly reasonably priced 280SL located in Queens, NY.
