We have talked a bit in these pages about the relative value of the mid-year 911. Even while values have increased over the past year that value judgement still remains. These are still much cheaper than the long-hood 911 and in some cases can even be had for less than the model that followed, the 911SC. The model we see here, however, is somewhat of an exception to the rule, though it still comes in below the long-hood models that were its predecessor. Here we have a Grand Prix White 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 Coupe, located in California. While these resemble the highly sought after European Carrera 2.7 MFI Coupe they are not the same mechanically, with the MFI boasting more power and lighter weight. But those come at three times the price.

The two-door estate, or shooting brake, as it is sometimes referred to, is a bit of a dying breed in the automotive realm. MINI revived the concept a bit with the Clubman based on their second generation platform. Technically, this was a five-door vehicle, but it was essentially a two-door vehicle with a third door for rear egress and two dutch doors for the tailgate. Volkswagen has dabbled in this breed as well, most recently with the Fox, a variant of the Brazilian market Gol brought to the US in the late 1980s. It wasn’t a huge seller, being pulled from the market after a few short years and two years before the Fox disappeared altogether. You could almost consider the car you see here, the Brasilia, as that car’s ancestor.
The Brasilia was developed by Volkswagen do Brasil as a larger, more luxurious alternative to the Beetle, with some being built in Mexico, like the car we see here for sale in the state of Jalisco in Mexico. This car was never sold new in the United States, but a few have appeared in enthusiast circles north of the Mexican border, serving as a curious and slightly more up to date version of the Type 3 Squareback.

1 CommentThe really nice Yellow over Black mid-year 911 Carrera Coupe we featured back in September is up for sale once again this time with a price reduction bringing it down from its very high $129,900 asking price to a still high, though somewhat more reasonable, $109,990. Can it sell this time?

Comments closedA couple weeks back we featured two fantastic 911s for sale at 4 Star Classics – this 1995 Carrera RS Clubsport and this extremely rare 1994 Speed Yellow Turbo 3.6 – and they happen to have two 1974 Carrera 2.7 MFI Coupes for sale so I figured why not show both of them. We’ve had the pleasure of featuring a few of these wonderful 911s in the past and as their values rapidly accelerate I imagine we’ll begin to see even more pristine examples come up for sale. The Carrera 2.7 MFI Coupe combines the running gear of the 1973 Carrera RS Touring with the mid-year redesign of the 911. So while they won’t look as good as a Carrera RS they still possess similar dynamic capabilities and come at a much cheaper price (even if they are still very pricey themselves).
We’ll begin with this example in Grand Prix White over Checkered Leatherette cloth, which shows 54,026 miles on it.

3 CommentsI love seeing the spectrum of Mogdom, from the pure work trucks, basic restorations, all the way to the all-out earth conquerers. The common thread between most, however, is that they have been redone in some fashion in their lives. Today’s gorgeous, tan 416 looks exactly how it did when it was built in 1974 – and looked exactly this way ever year in between. Having covered just over 9k miles, everything – the undercarriage, the chrome, the wood on the hydraulic tipper-bed – is perfect. It’s amazingly collector quality, yet the price is below some of the workers we’ve seen.
