2016 Porsche Cayman GT4

I was torn over whether to feature this car. It has some very alluring attributes: not only is it the performance obsessed Cayman GT4, but it comes in a fairly rare Carrara White Metallic exterior. The mileage remains fairly low and the price isn’t too bad relative to most examples of the GT4 I’ve seen. Not everything is great though. First, someone has stuck a bunch of decals on it. We’re also not told much about it. Most of those details can likely be worked out given this is a nearly new car. It’s said to be accident free, which is good, but there’s probably more to look through here than the typical GT4 for sale. Nonetheless, I think the exterior color is an important consideration on its own. I’ve seen very few GT4s in white so those on the lookout for one likely will want to put in the legwork to figure out the details.

Mint Green 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS

Porsche has a few divisive colors; colors that almost everyone will have an opinion about and you either love it or hate it. Some of those colors we don’t see often enough to bother ourselves with, but there are two in particular I can think of that we see relatively frequently. Both were available on the 964 and seemed to hit their stride at that time and both tend to come up as PTS options on modern Porsches. One of those is Rubystone Red (Sternrubin), now almost a classic 964 Carrera RS color, and the other is the color we see here: Mint Green.

We’ve seen it too adorning the 964 Carrera RS and it looks stunning. Here it has been revived as a paint-to-sample option on this 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, located in Virgina. I won’t say that it comes across as quite as stunning as it did on the Carrera RS, though the pictures themselves may be to blame here. Regardless, we have ourselves a very unique modern 911 with this one.

Double Take: Choose Your Blue – 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder

I’ve periodically had my eye out for the latest Porsche Boxster Spyder to feature. They don’t come up for sale all that often and most times when searching I have come up empty. The few times I have come across one it either sold very quickly or I came across an auction just prior to its end. My luck has finally come good.

The Spyder is the Boxster version of the Cayman GT4 and each serves as the swan song for these naturally aspirated Porsches. Like the GT4 it borrows its 3.8-liter engine from the 911 and in this form produces a nice 375 hp all routed to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. For me it’s also the best looking Boxster Porsche has produced thus far.

Here not only have I finally found a Spyder I like, but I found two of them! Obviously, they had to be featured together. Both are paint-to-sample non-metallic blues and are very bright. I ran a similar feature a while back with two PTS GT3 RS in blue and now we turn to another of Porsche’s limited-production models. The overall spec of these Spyders is pretty similar so really it all comes down to the exterior: Voodoo Blue or Mexico Blue. Which to have?

2016 Audi TTS

Want to feel very special, drive a great sports car and stand apart from the crowd but don’t have a million dollars for a Porsche 911?

No problem. I have the solution.

Sure, you could do what I suggested a few weeks ago and buy the ‘affordable’ and ‘useable’ supercar – Audi’s R8. With 600 plus horsepower from a screaming V10 and “arrest me now, I broke the speed limit the moment I turned the key” looks, you’re sure to draw attention and smiles. But even though relative to the used 911 market these cars are bargains, you’re saying ‘Come on, Carter – they’re still $170,000’. And you’re right – for most, they’re only affordable if you would consider them a primary residence rather than a weekend warrior.

So if you need to actually commute, what about Audi’s TTS? Okay, it’s not the 400 horsepower TT RS – I get it. But it retains the walk-on-water MQB platform and pairs it with the Golf R drivetrain – good for 292 horsepower and 280 lb.ft of torque driving all four wheels. Paired with the S-Tronic DSG dual-clutch, you’re capable of blitzing 60 mph in 4.6 seconds yet still this car returns 27 mpg on the highway. Unlike the R8, it’s also got rear seats (albeit quite small) and a hatchback that doesn’t contain a V10. While that’s disappointing when showing off to your friends, the reality is that occasionally you need to carry something larger than your ego.

But though it lacks the headline-grabbing figures and cross-marque instantly recognizable alpha-numeric nomenclature of its more famous siblings, the TTS fails to disappoint with performance and incorporates all the cutting-edge technology, including the mega-cool virtual dashboard. You can also spec it out in a bunch of really cool colors, such as the Vegas Yellow I looked at on the R8s. But this particular one, as you’ve seen, is a bit extra special, having been special ordered in Viper Green:

2016 Mercedes-Benz G300 CDI 6×6

I know what you are saying. ”Another G-Wagen?” Yes, but if you saw the title and looked at the photo you can understand why. This is a 2016 G300 CDI 6×6. Yes, a G300 CDI, which means this thing is powered by the 3.0 liter OM642 V6 diesel engine and of course, it is a 6×6, too. These special Gs are called the LAPV (Light Armored Patrol Vehicle) 6.1 used for military service for countries around the world. It doesn’t look like much now, but typically these are outfitted to look something like this or this. This 6×6 has also been upgraded with Beadlock 37-inch tires with a centralized pressure system in cab. Just for good measure, it is possible to tow a trailer weighing up to 4400 pounds. How much? It is a good thing militaries have large budgets.
