4WD Week: 1996 Porsche 911 C4S

I suppose it’s fitting that 4WD Week here at GCFSB coincides with the first snow of the year. Not that many owners of a 911 would feel much desire to take their car out into the snow, whether it happens to be a Carrera 4 or not, and they certainly would never consider such a thing with this car. Here we have a 1996 Porsche 911 C4S that has covered less than 10,000 miles and I would be shocked if a single snowflake had ever dare to touch its bonnet. The C4S came with much of the looks of its more capable turbo-charged sibling, minus the Turbo’s rear wing, but retained its 3.6 liter naturally aspirated engine. For many 911 fans the Carrera S in either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive configuration has been a favorite due to its wider rear fenders and on the 993 the design is particularly appealing.

About the C4S

The Carrera 4 S shared the Turbo model’s bodyshell, but housed the naturally aspirated Carrera engine in the rear. The 4S came with all-wheel-drive, and retained the Turbo model’s larger brake discs with the characteristic red calipers. It could be described as a “Turbo without the turbochargers and rear wing.” The C4S also had slightly lowered suspension compared to standard Carrera models.

993 prices in general have been very strong and the C4S has tended to do particularly well. Paul recently featured this Pastel Yellow C4S that did not sell, but was bid up to $75,100. With not too many more miles than the car here, and coming in a fairly rare color, that car sets a decent benchmark for the neighborhood in which this C4S should probably sell. They aren’t cheap, but as the last of the air-cooled 911s there’s a very good chance that a low mileage collector such as this will continue to appreciate and make for a very nice investment.
