Motorsport Monday: 2002 Porsche Boxster S

Most people who reside in New York City could not envision owning a car, let alone one that is prepared solely for on-track use. But, you never know what curiosities you’ll stumble upon in The City That Never Sleeps, which is why this race prepped Porsche Boxster S hanging out on Manhattan’s Lower West Side isn’t all too surprising. On offer from our friends at Classic Car Club Manhattan, this first generation Boxster S is ready to race, right on time as the warm weather hits and you are no doubt itching to tackle your favorite road course.

Motorsport Monday: 2011 Porsche Cayman S Interseries

Last fall, Paul wrote up a Jagermeister-livery Cayman S Interseries that reminded us how great these Caymans can look, and what a great deal they are relative to some of the newer 911 race cars. The Cayman S offers most of the performance of the 911 in a more affordable package, and that was topped by the introduction of the classic Porsche racing liveries, such as Martini Racing and Jagermeister. Today’s example is a bit newer than the previous example we looked at; a 2011 model with some Martini/Salzburg inspired graphics. To me, it looks great:

Deja-2: 1989 and 1991 Porsche 944 S2s, plus a 1987 944S for good measure!

As Yogi Berra famously said, it’s deja-vu all over again. If you missed the opportunity to jump in with the two 944 S2s I wrote up last week, you’ve got another opportunity this week, plus one for good luck. Again today we’ve got two of the S2s, in Graphite and Glacier Blue, and a golden 87 944S 16V as well. Perhaps one of these will strike your fancy? Let’s start with the newest:

1984 Audi 4000S Quattro Turbo

We’ve been lucky enough to see a string recently of very nice condition 4000 quattros, with the nicest and highest priced breaking the $10,000 glass ceiling on these models. That’s apparently signaled to other 4000 owners that the market is prime to get out at current top dollar, ignoring the confluence of factors that combined to create that record sale. A super well documented, fully sorted and all original example, that car also found the right buyer at the right time. In contrast, today we have a decidedly unoriginal 4000S quattro with an asking price unsurprisingly right around the sale amount for that 1985 model. Will a modded 4000 bring stronger money than the average? Take a look and see what you think:

1977 Volkswagen Scirocco

In lieu of the normal “Tuner Tuesday” posts, today I decided to write up two home-brew specials in the likeness of many tuners. We started with the 1968 BMW 1600 S14 swap, a rare to see model with some really great looking and fun-increasing modifications. But I think the cake might go to this afternoon’s Christmas Eve special, a 1977 Volkswagen Scirocco that has more period modifications than you’ll usually see – but manages to pull it off really well! That can’t always be said for 1980s-era modifications in general, as quite a few were in questionable taste. That’s part of what makes this Scirocco so special and neat to see, if seeing an old Scirocco wasn’t neat enough. We’ve gotten to see two this week, the all original and mint condition 1981 Scirocco and today’s tuned example:
